#142. Forty-Three Coral Canaries, 1” x 30” x 30” (43 pieces)

This work was created in response to recent coral die-offs as a result of coral bleaching. Both coral and canaries are considered sentinel species, which detect risks to humans by providing advance warning of an environmental danger. Each piece represents one billion metric tonnes of estimated carbon dioxide emissions from human activities in 2019 (43.1 ±3.2 GtCO2, source: globalcarbonproject.org).

Hand built, high fired stoneware, iron oxide, eggshell matte glaze.

This project was made carbon neutral by purchasing carbon offsets through The Gold Standard Foundation (https://www.goldstandard.org/)
